Our Background

Locally generated information is far more useful to a policy-maker than an imported idea that has to be re-engineered to fit a particular unique local problem. While international agencies have done commendable effort in supporting several kinds of research in Africa, they have nevertheless not paid much attention to assist in design of long-term and sustainable support to national or regional policy-linked research organizations.

With scarce funding for research budgets in Africa, including Kenya, RESTECH Centre was established to concentrate the scarce resources (human, material and financial) in a few carefully selected, policy-relevant research programmes where it has clear comparative advantages. The research programmes are multidisciplinary; and involve natural, physical and social scientists working together on trans-sect oral developmental issues.

The Centre has experienced researchers and development experts with strong background in food security, climate change, policy analysis and formulation, Programme management, training, institutional review, community based service management and organization management advisory. The centre is also richly staffed with multi-skilled professionals in programme management, social and physical research, communications and institutional capacity building.

Regionally, the RESTECH Centre is strategically located in the heart of Eastern Africa. The on-going economic integration of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Southern Sudan into East African Community makes RESTECH a regional hub of knowledge for the future.
